What Happens During a Hygiene Visit
A typical pediatric hygiene appointment at Dental Care Kids includes:
- A warm greeting and tour of the chair (“the spaceship,” “the throne,” “the comfy recliner” — whatever works for your child)
- A full dental cleaning to remove plaque and tartar
- Polishing with a flavored paste your child chooses (strawberry, bubblegum, and mint are popular)
- Fluoride treatment to strengthen enamel
- An oral health education conversation in language your child understands
- A review with one of our pediatric dentists for an exam
- A balloon and a goodie bag on the way out

Our hygienists don’t just clean teeth — they teach. Every visit is a chance to show kids (and parents) how to brush more effectively, why flossing matters, how diet affects enamel, and how to spot early warning signs of decay. What Makes Our Hygienists Different
They chose pediatrics on purpose.
Working with children takes a very specific kind of patience, creativity, and energy. Our hygienists didn’t end up in pediatric dentistry — they sought it out. Many started at Dental Care Kids as dental assistants before completing their hygiene degrees, meaning they already had years of experience working specifically with kids before they ever performed a cleaning.
Bilingual and multilingual.
Our hygiene team speaks Spanish, Haitian Creole, French, Hindi, and more — making families from every corner of Fairfield County feel at home from the moment they sit down.
Trained in pediatric-specific techniques.
Cleaning a toddler’s teeth is not the same as cleaning an adult’s. Our hygienists are trained in behavior guidance, age-appropriate communication, and gentle techniques built around small mouths and short attention spans.
